One School One Book
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
In February, our school will begin a special project, an all school book club called One School, One Book. One School, One Book is a program designed to create a shared reading experience within a single elementary school community. A chapter book is chosen, every family in the elementary school receives a copy, and every family reads that book at home over the course of a single month. Activities at school coordinate, promote, and enrich the shared reading experience.
Every student will receive a copy of the book – E.B. White’s The Trumpet of the Swan –and are asked to read with the family over the month of February. We are personally asking you to make the commitment to read daily to support our school’s involvement in this special program. Reading aloud at home is a valuable, fun, and rewarding activity that prepares your child to be an effective reader. With the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers.
Students, teachers, parents, and administrators will be participating in this whole school endeavor and reaping the benefits of this program. Your child will receive his/her copy of The Trumpet of the Swan at an assembly to be held tomorrow, January 27, 2010 at 1:45. A reading schedule will accompany your child’s book to begin on Monday, February 1st. We encourage you to make the commitment as a family to read every evening for at least fifteen minutes. Each day, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward participation. We have lots of activities and rewards to make this a fun and rewarding experience for every student in our school.
“When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about.” With your help, we can build a Community of Readers at our school.
Sincerely,
Ryan C. Oswalt
